The foundation for outdoor living entertaining

written by Jennifer Michalik, Outdoor Living Product Manager

Outdoor kitchens are becoming a very popular trend in Southern California. While some clients’ outdoor living plans include a simple patio, grill and some folding chairs, others create outdoor living spaces that are fully equipped cooking and dining areas. The point is that this spring and summer, your customers are bound to be entertaining outdoors. I have found that there are new products from a design and installation standpoint that can bring ease of use, value and creativity in design to your next project. Eldorado’s glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) Building Blocks have proven to be one of the most flexible and innovative building materials to achieve just that.

I fully realize there is some irony in calling pre-fabricated GFRC cabinets flexible. Trust me, coming from a design background, I wasn’t sure how easy those building blocks would be to design into a project. However, speaking from experience after using them on just one project, the advantages in both design and construction were very clear. Not only can outdoor kitchens and outdoor living spaces be created in cool and functional ways, but they can be constructed very quickly saving both money and time.  Needless to say, I’ve become a big fan of the product.

Eldorado Building Blocks come in 16 different size/height cabinet options. The shapes and sizes can accommodate a huge variety of outdoor kitchen options. Their backsplash product adds a functional design element, as do their benches, columns, gas-burning fire pit and fire places. I am certain someone could do the math to figure out how many possible functional and beautiful combinations are available, but I’m going to speak to you from experience. After seeing a number of projects completed, there is not much that is out of design-reach with Eldorado’s Building Blocks.

As was the case with me, you probably have to see it to believe the endless possibilities.  Check out the photos that were submitted by Randy G Myers and Nurseries, a landscape contractor out of Palm Desert. Miles Myers, a second generation landscaper, used Eldorado’s Gas-Burning Fireplace and added the backrest and hearth extension to really make the fire feature a statement piece.

In addition, he got creative by creating a multi-level outdoor kitchen…all using Eldorado Building Blocks.  He installed the umbrella through the building blocks for the perfect positioning of shade.

Similarly, Evan Weisman, Owner of Arcadian Landscape out of north San Diego County, created a custom pergola that was easily integrated within the building block itself.
