Sprinkler Troubleshooting Chart

The sprinkler doesn’t pop up correctly.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
There is not enough water pressure to run the zone. Reconfigure the zone into two or more zones.
The main system shutoff valve is not fully open. Open the system shutoff fully by turning it counter-clockwise.
The flow control on the zone valve is partially closed. Open the flow control fully by turning it counter-clockwise.

 

The sprinkler pops up, but doesn’t spray.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
The radius adjustment screw may be turned off. Turn the screw counter clockwise.
The sprinkler nozzle is clogged. Remove and clean nozzle.
The internal nozzle filter may be plugged. Flush out the nozzle screen.
The sprinkler is broken. Replace the sprinkler

 

A rotor sprinkler won’t rotate.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
There isn’t enough water pressure. Increase water pressure.
The sprinkler is broken. Replace the sprinkler

 

There is a gap in the spray pattern.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
The sprinkler nozzle and/or head is clogged. Clean out the sprinkler head and nozzle.
The sprinkler is damaged. Replace the sprinkler

 

The sprinkler rotates in one direction, but then stops.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
There is not enough pressure to rotate sprinkler fully. Increase water pressure.
The sprinkler head is damaged. Replace the sprinkler

 

Water floods from a sprinkler.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
The sprinkler nozzle is missing. Replace the missing sprinkler nozzle
The sprinkler head is cracked or missing. Replace the sprinkler

 

The sprinkler won’t retract after watering.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
There is debris between the sprinkler riser and the riser seal. Remove any debris from the seal.
The sprinkler riser or riser seal is damaged. Replace the seal or replace the sprinkler.
The retraction spring is damaged. Replace the sprinkler
