Valve Troubleshooting Chart

Zone valves won’t turn on.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
Day/start time/run time settings are incorrect Make corrections to controller’s overall day/date/time settings & correct programs as needed.
The zone valve is not being supplied with water. Make sure the water supply for that zone is turned on.
There is a faulty valve solenoid. Replace the faulty valve solenoid.
The valve control is closed. Turn the valve control counter-clockwise to open it.
 

Zone valves won’t turn off.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
The zone valve’s wires are disconnected. Reconnect the zone valve’s wires.
The program timing is incorrect. Make corrections to controller’s overall day/date/time settings & correct programs as needed.
There is debris in the valve or solenoid or in the meter in orifice. Take apart the valve and clean it with fresh water.
 

The valve is leaking.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
The valve diaphragm is damaged. Replace the damaged valve diaphragm.
Either the valve body or valve bonnet is cracked or broken. Replace the broken valve.
 

The lowest sprinkler in the zone is leaking.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
The valve diaphragm is damaged. Replace the damaged valve diaphragm.
 

A manual valve is stuck or hard to operate.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
There is dirt in the valve. Take apart the valve; clean, lubricate and reassemble it.
 

The spray is misting.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
The water flow is too high. Lower the flow on the irrigation valve.
 

The spray pattern is too small.

Possible Causes: Remedy:
The water flow rate is too low. Increase the flow on the irrigation valve.

 

 

Valve Solenoid Issues

Problem Possible Causes: Remedy:
A zone valve will not activate. The valve solenoid is burnt out. Replace the solenoid.
Fuses blow There is a faulty solenoid or faulty wiring. Replace the solenoid, check and repair faulty wiring.
